I watched this on youtube with my friend Igor the other night, drinking beers, and he was telling how insane these gigs were, being there as a teenager, seeing bands you worship for the first time, showing me where he was standing.
He went there to see AC/DC and Metallica but didn't really know what to expect from Pantera, not being a fan of the band at that time. Of course they blew his mind.
When you grew up in Europe, it's hard to imagine attending a concert with machine guns everywhere, young millitaries trying to contend thousands of kids off their faces.
Most of you already know it, but for those who don't, this was the largest crowd ever in a Monsters of Rock festival, with estimates between 700.000 and 1.5 million people, one of the most attended rock concerts in history.
He also said that back then in Ukraine, the only way to get music as a kid was going to these street shops with blank tapes and pay the guy to record albums on it.
Here's another amazing video he sent me last week:
"I got to tell you something. Ever since i was a little boy, i've had one thing on my mind. Women! And i love everything about em."
Genius.
