Lower Clapton Road: Ümit & Son

I've always wanted to write something about one of the few interesting places in a neighbourhood composed of about 5000 kebabs, fried chicken take aways, betting places or pound shops.
(Can't believe that after turning woolthworths into an Iceland, the Railway Tavern became a Paddy Power bookmakers...)

I already had glimpsed the owner's grumpiness the first time i bought him some "dvds" (maybe the worst first contact you could have with the man) but nothing compared to yesterday when i entered his store and asked him if he wanted to do an interview for my blog.
He went: "interviews, interviews, interviews (showing me torn pages framed all around his counter!?) i'm tired of doing interviews mate, sorry, no way i'd do it, bye."

I felt sorry he reacted this way because i was really hoping for some kind of Neverending Story meets High Fidelity moment, making kung fu top lists, talking about snuff movies and 3D.

Vice had the chance to spend some time with Ümit a few months ago.
