Beaucoup plus grosses que des balles de ping pong...

I'm always surprised when i go abroad to talk with people who are into hip hop and don't know about Booba (dude is totally unknown here in London).

Mostly known for the 90's and people like Mc Solaar, NTM, IAM, french hip hop slowly started to lose its funk and soul influence to develop a more melancholic vibe (ever heard a track from this era without violins?), and a pessimism in lyrics that is still widespread nowadays.

The album that emphasizes that french gloominess has to be Lunatic's "Mauvais Oeil", Booba's first band.
Definitely up there for me and one of the albums i played over and over, this second album will be their last and the start of Booba's solo career.

Booba's beats are generally provided by AnimalS SonS and i really think they helped him to succeed where other failed, in keeping his french identity with obvious american influences.

The man is by far the best lyricist in France (i always try to translate some rhymes to foreigners and feel really frustrated they can't hear what i hear...).
